In the cool solitude of trees
William Kean Seymour
Where leaves and birds a music spin
Mind that is weary is at ease,
New rhythms of the soul begin
Back in September, Rich and I took an entire week off work, and parenting, and adulting and trekked to rural Wyoming to celebrate our dear friend’s 40th birthday. What we found in the woods at Flat Creek Ranch was ourselves, a reignited love affair with nature and each other, and the illusive peace that comes with disconnecting from technology and reconnecting with nature alongside lifelong friends and world-class accommodations.
This time, this trip, this discovery, was a gift. A gem of a ranch tucked into the rough wilderness just East of Jackson, Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park where the kindest, most insanely talented people have stewarded history and preservation of a long-lost lifestyle with passion and love. Every detail poured into the next-level hospitality is in-line with the beautiful surroundings. Thoughtful, luxurious, and yet not overdone to the point of taking any focus away from the show-stopping display mother nature graces the valley with every day at the ranch. Boredom doesn’t exist when you have the choice of epic hikes, world-class fly fishing, stunning trail rides, crisp SUP sessions on a glass-like lake, and riverside sauna soirées literally steps away. Not to mention food that rivals that found in the nicest restaurants in the biggest cities around the world…all served up daily at Flat Creek Ranch from June to late October. Every detail was perfection from the coffee delivered to your doorstep every morning, to the locally hand-made eucalyptus poppyseed soaps awaiting you in the claw foot tubs in your room, to the warming of the outdoor hot tub for our 4 pm “hot tub happy hour”. The staff and curators at the ranch quickly became friends that just added to the overall trip of a lifetime; welcoming, accommodating, and experts at sharing their talents with us city slickers!
It’s like summer camp for adults on steroids and if you get off the beaten track enough to make the trip, I promise you will leave feeling full of fresh mountain air & the feeling that this, THIS, is what living is. Full nights of sleep after days of exploring the great outdoors, the peace and quiet of a mountain stream being the only white noise, and the tear-filled laughter of late-night fireside shenanigans with friends filling your heart with so.much.love. In case you can’t tell, we will be back. Hopefully sooner rather than later!
